TED Talk Tuesday

This week's TED talk comes from Theo Jansen, a dutch artist who has built his own species of wind-powered machines.  The sculptures use a series of simple machines, levers and wheel-and-axles, to walk along beaches.  The engineering is remarkable, the concept inspiriting, and the footage Theo includes will bring a smile to your face.

This video illustrates the synergy of art and science.  What a great way to leave the simple machines unit with a great taste in our mouths.  The haunted houses the students will build in class on Halloween is the first step to creating machines like the ones seen here.  I'm looking forward to spending some time problem solving with the classes on Monday.

For more information about Theo Jansen's creations visit his website:   where you can find everything from do-it-yourself kits to videos and DVDs.
