Weather Study Guide

Late winter / early spring is the perfect time for a weather unit. The Jet Stream's moving all over the place. Warmer air is making its way up from the gulf, while now and again arctic air still finds a way in to the mix. It's 70 degrees one day, below freezing the next.

It's important that students walk away from this unit understanding these major concepts:

  • How pressure systems and how they affect our daily weather.
  • The dynamics of air masses mixing and the fronts that occur at their boundaries.
  • The conditions that lead to more severe weather
The following is a link to different resources for students to review these concepts. On this study guide, you'll find the different presentations students created to visualize their understanding of the concepts.

Each concept has links to Weather Wizard videos by The Weather Channel, along with a few select YouTube clips.

It's important that your student reviews the concepts rather than memorize (study) definitions. If their looking for good review activities, they can draw diagrams and make notes about the concepts from the videos.
