Welcome Back from April Break

I hope everybody had an exciting or restful vacation. Here's some of interesting things from around the web that cropped up while we were away.

1. I don't know a lot about Coney Island. Besides knowing the name, I was introduced to its mystique in Kate Milford's forthcoming book The Broken Lands. After coming across the video, A Love Letter to Coney Island, I'm even more intrigued.

I'm sure you'll be impressed when you see the amount of thought that must have gone into creating such a beautiful visual tribute. If anybody is interested in creating their own visual tribute, I'm happy to consider it extra credit. Keep in mind all of the cool angles that went into making this video so engaging.

For some more information check out The Coney Island History Project has been collecting the stories that have made Coney Island one of America's most unique destinations.

2. I'll be sure to add this next link to our solar system unit but here's the best 3D illustrations of the planets I've come across yet!

3. I know how much we all love stop motion videos. Here's one of the most unique ones yet. 960 records are stacked to create an exact replica of the song's wavelength.

4. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know anything about Holi, the Hindu festival of color celebrating spring. After seeing this beautiful short video, I'd like to know more.

5. Let me know what you think about this next video. I find it fascinating. However, if you tell me that you're not quite as interested, I certainly wouldn't hold it against you. But hey, if you did want to know what creates that old book smell, here's an explanation!

6. Here's another one I have a question about. It's the history of our modern calendar. It moves quick and it's pretty complicated, but- the visuals really help. And, I think it's pretty interesting.

7. And I'll wrap it up with a fascinating article. You know all of those times I happen to walk over to your desk just as your head tilts on your arm and your eyes are staring out to space? Well, new research suggests... (you'll have to read to find out!)

Does Daydreaming Make You Smarter?
